Northern Pearly-eye (Lethe anthedon) (A. Clark, 1936) |
Synonyms: Enodia anthedon |
Lethe anthedon occurs in North America, from central Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia, south to the Gulf of Mexico. It is found in deciduous and mixed woodlands, often along edges, e.g., riverine areas and wetlands. The wingspan is 43-67 mm. The upperside and underside are brown with dark eyespots; the antennal clubs are black. Adults obtain fluids from tree sap, fungi, carrion, and dung. The larva feeds on various grasses, and occasionally sedges. One brood in the north (June-August), and two in the south (May-September).
